Description
A variation of the North-South Choke where the choking arm threads in front of and traps the opponent's near arm against their neck, rather than wrapping outside it (arm-out/classical version). The trapped arm removes one of the opponent's primary defensive tools and adds extra strangling surface. From north-south, thread the choking-side arm under the opponent's near-side armpit and around the neck, pinning their arm to their own throat; support with the free hand, sprawl the legs, and drop weight/hip pressure to finish.
Common Applications
Common when the opponent frames or posts with their near arm to defend the classical (arm-out) North-South Choke — instead of fighting to strip the frame, the attacker threads the choking arm inside/in front of it, trapping the arm against the neck.
Primary Setups:
Classical North-South Choke Defense: When opponent frames the near arm against the choking arm, switch the wrap to go in front of and trap that arm instead
From Side Control: Transition to north-south while collecting the near arm on the way through
Kimura/D'Arce Defense: When opponent tucks or turns the near arm to defend, catch it against the neck en route to north-south
