A traditional Japanese straw bale used to store rice, weighing roughly 60kg (1 koku). In grappling nomenclature it appears as a metaphor describing the visual of hoisting and flipping a heavy sack overhead. Used only in Tawara-gaeshi (俵返し, "rice bag reversal"), a Ma-sutemi-waza counter where tori loads uke onto the chest and rolls them over the top, mimicking the motion of flipping a rice bale.
