Three-Quarter Guard

Variation of: Mount

A transitional position where the top player has nearly achieved full mount but one foot/ankle/heel remains trapped between the bottom player's legs — a leftover half-guard-style leg entanglement that stops the mount from being fully secured. It sits between half guard and full mount and is commonly named from either side: bottom players and half-guard-focused instruction call it "Three-Quarter Guard," while top-player/passing-focused instruction calls the same position "Three-Quarter Mount" or "3/4 Mount" (occasionally "Half Mount"). From the top, the position resembles mount except one leg isn't free — pressure is reduced and the trapped foot creates vulnerability to reversals; if the bottom player doesn't clear the leg quickly, normal defensive movement often just resets back into this same position rather than escaping it, and the top player will eventually free the knee into full mount. From the bottom, the priority is preventing that knee from freeing — either recovering half guard/deep half guard or scrambling out before mount is completed.
