Description

A dominant control technique popularized by Dagestani wrestlers, particularly Khabib Nurmagomedov, that involves controlling an opponent's wrist by reaching around their back and trapping it against their body or the mat. This arm immobilization severely limits the opponent's defensive capabilities, preventing them from posting for balance or defending against strikes.

Originating from wrestling's "wrist ride" or "hammerlock" positions, the technique has been adapted for MMA and grappling to create opportunities for ground-and-pound, positional advancement, or submission setups.

Common Applications

Most effective when opponent is in turtle position or attempting to stand from bottom. Creates immediate defensive disadvantage by removing one arm from play, making opponent vulnerable to strikes or positional advancement. Commonly used in MMA for ground-and-pound sequences where the trapped arm prevents effective defense. In pure grappling, serves as a control position to advance to mount, back control, or set up submissions. Particularly effective against opponents who rely heavily on hand fighting or posting for balance.
