Description
A no-gi arm-triangle blood choke. The choking arm threads under the opponent's near arm, across the front of the neck, and over the far arm/shoulder; the hand grips the opposite bicep (figure-four), with the other arm behind the opponent's head to close the lock. Squeezing while driving the opponent onto their side compresses the carotids with their own trapped shoulder. The lock closes behind the neck (vs the anaconda, which closes at the armpit) and the trapped arm is usually pinned to the floor. Set up from the front headlock, sprawl, turtle, side control, and half guard; a signature of long-armed grapplers.
Common Applications
Most often entered off a sprawl — when the opponent shoots and you stuff it, their head drops and the near arm is exposed to thread the choking arm under. Also the standard finish from the front headlock or against a turtled opponent, and available from top side control or half guard when they turn in or frame. It chains with the anaconda and arm-triangle (switch between them as each is defended) and transitions to the triangle, mounted-triangle-to-darce, and darce-o-plata. Favored by lanky, long-armed grapplers, who can even hit it from bad spots like baiting it from bottom side control.
