- BJJ: Roadhouse Choke
Blood choke via a modified throat-post mechanism; same carotid-compression risk profile as other shime-waza strangles.
Primary risk to: Receiver (uke)
Description
A modified throat-post choke developed by Rob Biernacki (Island Top Team), an ADCC Open and IBJJF No-Gi Worlds black belt masters champion. Biernacki introduced it publicly after using it to win the 2023 IBJJF No-Gi Worlds (masters 4, black belt, middleweight), and it has since seen use at the elite level — Kaynan Duarte attempted it repeatedly at an IBJJF No-Gi Grand Prix, and Nicholas Meregali applied it at a Fight Pass Invitational. It's notable for being surprisingly legal under most competition rulesets despite its unorthodox mechanism. Vagner Rocha has also posted content demonstrating/using the choke, which is likely why it's associated with his name in search and social results — but the technique itself originates with Biernacki, not Rocha.
Common Applications
Used as a top-control finishing option; specific entry sequence (which position, which grips) is not yet confirmed from a primary source.
