Description
The arm drag is a fundamental grappling technique used to control an opponent's arm and create angles for advantageous positions. The attacker grips the opponent's wrist or sleeve and steps/pivots to the side, pulling the arm across the opponent's centerline to expose their back. Applied both from standing (vs. a standing opponent) and from a standing attacker against a seated opponent in butterfly guard, where it's a primary route to back control or a body lock.
Common Applications
A high-percentage, low-cost entry to back control; often set up by pressuring the collar to bait a push-back reaction. Commonly chains into a body lock takedown, leg entanglement, or submissions like the D'Arce choke off the dragged arm.
