Description

A scooping throw where the attacker drops their level, scoops both of the opponent's legs with their arms, and drives backward to throw them. The technique involves removing the opponent's base by lifting their legs while applying backward pressure with the upper body. Historically significant as one of Jigoro Kano's original 40 throws.

Common Applications

Effective against opponents leaning forward or attempting forward attacks. Powerful in self-defense situations and no-gi grappling.

Note: Banned in IJF judo competitions since 2010 due to leg-grabbing restrictions, but remains valuable for traditional training, kata, and BJJ/MMA applications.
