Description
A leg-assisted americana (shoulder lock) — also called a leg americana — attacked from underneath side control or scarf hold (kesa-gatame). Popularised by UK grappler Shane 'The Goth Lord' Curtis, it converts a defensive bottom pin into an offensive arm attack: the bottom player frames over the opponent's head, captures the near wrist, traps the elbow with the knee, triangles the legs around the arm, and hips in to finish with external shoulder rotation.
Common Applications
Offence from under side control or scarf hold, turning a defensive pin into a submission. Central to Curtis's baiting game, where committed top pressure is punished by catching the passing arm. No-gi friendly, since the leg triangle isolates the arm without requiring grips.
