Coyote Guard

Variation of: Half Guard

A deep underhook half guard system developed by Lucas Leite, sitting between standard underhook half guard and deep half guard. Typically entered off a knee shield: the bottom player uses the knee to create space, drives the underhook deep to the opponent's far hip, and hooks the far leg with the bottom arm while keeping the head tight to the opponent's belly to control the inside space. The defining detail is constant outward rotational tension on the opponent's near knee, which discourages them from applying flattening pressure without risking their own knee. Known for enabling smaller/lighter grapplers to control and sweep much heavier opponents, and for chaining into sweeps (e.g. the 'Carry the Baby' sweep), back takes, and octopus guard transitions.
