Octopus Guard
Variation of:
Half Guard
A hybrid turtle/half-guard position invented by Eduardo Telles. Entered from closed or half guard by clearing the opponent's arms to one side, sitting up, and swimming the near arm under the opponent's far lat (or belt, in gi) while posting on the elbow, rather than taking the standard underhook. The resulting grip controls the opponent's posture and base, making it a strong launching point for sweeps, back takes, and leg entanglements.
