Knee Reap

Variation of: Open Guard

A leg lock control position where the attacking player's shin or leg crosses over the opponent's thigh, creating a perpendicular pressure point across the target leg. This position serves as a gateway to numerous leg lock submissions including heel hooks, toeholds, and knee locks. The reaping shin creates mechanical advantage while the attacker's arms control the opponent's heel and knee, establishing a dual-pressure system. Knee reaping is a foundational mechanic in SAMBO wrestling and has become increasingly prevalent in modern BJJ leg lock systems. The position restricts the opponent's ability to rotate, extend, or escape the leg.
