Description
A gi choke, named for Brazilian judoka and BJJ black belt Flavio Canto, distinguished by threading the choking arm — after securing a collar grip — underneath the opponent's near-side leg rather than crossing both lapels. The leg acts as a lever, letting the attacker generate choking pressure without needing a second collar grip. Most commonly taught from bottom half guard, using a high knee shield to trap the leg, and against a turtled opponent, though it has also been shown from top side control/north-south and open guard. Popularized further by Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira.
Common Applications
Half guard bottom (high knee shield traps the leg), turtle attacks, side control/north-south
