Description

Tori brushes the outer (little-toe) edge of uke's advancing foot sideways with the sole, sweeping it into or past the other foot so uke falls in the direction of the sweep. It is pure timing: the foot must be caught in the split second it is light - just before the weight settles onto it during a step - not muscled once it's planted. Hands act at the same instant, the pulling hand drawing uke's shoulders down over the swept foot.

Common Applications

Best hit on uke's forward or sideways step, or by forcing a step with a push–pull of the grips. From gi, standard sleeve-and-collar; in no-gi, off a collar tie or 2-on-1 as they circle. Low-risk, low-commitment - if the timing misses you simply reset.
