Description
Tori first lifts and pulls uke up-and-forward (the tsurikomi action) to load them onto one tensioned leg, then sweeps that extended leg at the shin/ankle with the sole. Unlike de-ashi-barai, the balance-break is manufactured by the hands rather than borrowed from uke's step, so the sweep can be taken on a more static opponent.
Common Applications
Use the grips to draw uke's weight up and onto their front foot; as the leg straightens and loads, sweep it away. Pairs naturally with hip throws (harai-goshi) as a lighter-commitment alternative when uke defends the hip.
