Description

Springing wraparound: a side sacrifice throw (yoko-sutemi-waza) that starts as hane-goshi. Tori releases the lapel hand and wraps uke's arm tightly under the armpit, then springs the bent leg up against uke's inner thigh while turning and falling forward, winding uke over and down. It is the makikomi (wrap-and-fall) counterpart to hane-goshi. Kodokan Gokyo, 4th group.

Common Applications

Follow-up when hane-goshi doesn't lift uke cleanly: tori commits to the wrap rather than staying upright.
