Description

A Kodokan chokehold using a collar/lapel grip to pressure the carotid arteries while the opponent's near arm is lifted and trapped — the "single wing" the name refers to, since only one of the opponent's arms remains free to defend. Commonly reached as a follow-up to Koshi Jime (clock choke): when the opponent fights the circling collar grip and turns further into you, their near arm gets pinned in the process, converting the attack into kata-ha-jime instead.

Common Applications

A natural transition when Koshi Jime (clock choke) is defended and the opponent's near arm gets trapped in the scramble — finish by pressuring the collar into the neck while keeping that arm pinned.
