This warning reflects the technique's mechanics and does not change with competition ruleset.

Description

An omoplata-style shoulder lock adapted by Eduardo Telles to the turtle position. When the top player reaches in to establish grips, control the hips, or initiate a back take, the bottom player traps that arm and rolls under or around the opponent, hooking the trapped arm with a leg in the same figure-four leg entanglement used to set up a standard omoplata from guard. Rolling through drives the opponent's shoulder down toward the mat, applying rotational pressure on the joint to force the tap.

Common Applications

A submission answer to opponents who overcommit reaching for grips or a back-take attempt while the bottom player is turtled up, punishing an exposed/trapped arm rather than requiring a dedicated setup. Telles also teaches a named follow-up variation ("Variation from Turtleplata") in the same instructional series.
