Description
A documented follow-up to the Funk Roll, used when the opponent counters by stepping over to the same side as the leg the defender is controlling. Rather than losing the exchange, the defender keeps their grip on the opponent's ankle to prevent them from getting their hips up, posts the opposite hand, and builds their knees underneath themselves to gain height over the opponent. As the opponent turns to face back in, the defender applies a Seagirt-style leg-ride control: wrapping the opposite elbow around the controlled ankle and wrapping the opposite knee with the same hand, locking down a dominant leg-ride position.
Common Applications
Follow-up chain when the opponent counters the base Funk Roll by stepping over to the same side as the trapped leg; converts what would be a stalemate back into dominant control.
