Victor's Roll

A single leg defense popularized by Garry Tonon, built on the standard whizzer/overhook stage of single leg defense. When the opponent shoots and secures a leg, the defender establishes a whizzer — overhooking the attacker's near arm and lifting their armpit to create space — then, rather than simply circling the leg free, rolls forward between the attacker's legs. This is a variation of the Sambo scissors takedown (Kani Basami): instead of scissoring the opponent's legs outward, the roll goes in-between them, landing the defender in a strong leg-locking position (e.g. 4-11/outside ashi) on the original attacker rather than just neutralizing the takedown.
